Why Iceland is So Photogenic

This is our fourth night in Iceland and we’ve made our way from Reykjavik to the Southern city of Vik. So far Iceland is pretty cool. We first spent the night at a hotel at the Blue Lagoon which was seriously the best day ever. We spent the entire day in the Lagoon at both the hotel and the park. I love Japanese onsens so it was great to be able to go to an onsen again because this was one of my favorite things to do in Japan.

Iceland is a lot like I envisioned. Today though we drove a couple hours, went to a waterfall, hiked a small glacier, and then walked 2 miles each way through flat desert plains (40 minutes each) to explore an old plane crash on the beach outside of Vik.

It was really interesting but we had to hike across these flat plains and the wind nearly blew us over. But it was a cool experience of course.  My Fitbit says I’ve walked 101 flights of stairs, 10 miles, and 23, 349 steps and it just congratulated me on earning the Skyscraper Badge for climbing 100 floors.

I’m kinda beat though as there are infrequent restaurants around Iceland and with my dietary restrictions, I’ve pretty much lived off one large meal a day. We’ve eaten some of the best food ever this trip, but my only complaint is that this country is not very easily gluten-free friendly, and there’s not a ton of food, at least outside of Reykjavik. But dinner has been extraordinary every night.

I’ve been getting frequent updates from my dog sitter on our little man but it’s so sad because every picture of him has such a sad face. It’s hard sometimes to recognize a dog’s sad face, but you know your own dogs. He’s got huge pouty faces which makes me want to fly home and rescue him!! Sucks we can’t take our pets with us when we travel, but at least he was able to come to Yosemite with us earlier this year.

But we’ve stayed at some nice hotels, but we are both very impressed with the Iceland Air Hotel in Vik. It’s simple but clean and comfortable. It doesn’t take much. Dinner tonight, I also ate the best chicken I’ve ever had in my life. Tomorrow we are off to Reykjavik for a couple of nights before we head off to Scotland!
